The Hydrant Assist Kit (HAK) is an efficient, economical device to attach lawn irrigation systems to underground waterlines/watermains. Use of the universal check valve (as seen to the left) in addition to the HAK allows you to turn the water from the main on or off by simply engaging or disengaging the check valve. This eliminates needing access to the homeowner’s utility room to do repairs/service or to blow the system out in the fall.
Example 1. For residential applications, the brass coupler of the HAK is connected to the waterlines and the riser pipe comes up in the bottom of the valve box of your sprinkler system. Use the universal check valve to install the pipe of your choice. Most people use 1" Schedule 40 or 80 PVC with glue X female thread adapter – this will assure that the couplings will not unscrew if you remove pipe. If you use a 1 ¼" PVC pipe, you’ll need to use 1 ¼" PVC and glue x 1" thread adapter.
Example 2. If vacuum breaker is required, install HAK 1’ above ground and install vacuum breaker out of the top of the assist kit to desired height.
HAK Models to use with irrigation systems:
- HAK 1000R: 1" pipe to irrigation system and 1" opening to water main
- HAK 1000: 1 ¼" pipe to irrigation system and 1" opening to water main
Using a HAK and universal check valve is an efficient, economical, sensible choice when installing lawn irrigation systems. Save yourself time and money—install a HAK and Universal Check Valve.
