Anton Prier, a German emigrant, founded Prier in Kansas City, Missouri in 1881. It started as a brass foundry that produced many products for both the United States Military and Navy. Modern day Prier produces top of the line commercial and ground hydrants. Prier hydrant’s come in many different sizes and variations to help find you in exactly what you are looking for.
YH Series
To start, there are two main sets of Prier yard hydrants. The first set is the YH Series. YH series yard hydrants have a bright blue, heavy-duty cast-iron hydrant head. Their simple design allows for easy repairs directly from the surface. The hydrant’s body consists of a galvanized steel pipe body and a one-piece plunger design. This hydrant series is freeze-less. The water drains below the frost line when the hydrant is shut off. This prevents freezing and breaks. Finally, the YH series meets the 2014 Safe Drinking Water Act and is made in bury depths from 1′ to 6′.
C/P Series
The second yard hydrant series that Prier offers is the C/P Series. This series consists of 4 different yard hydrants the P-260, C-250/251, and the C-240. All of the models have a matte green hydrant head. The P-260 is referred to as the Heavy-Duty Ground Hydrant. You can maintain this hydrant from ground level without removing the cast-iron head and lever handle. It’s a popular option because of its ease of use and maintenance.
The next hydrant models are the C-250 and C-251. Their extra thick-walled head casting makes them heavy duty. The only difference between these two hydrants is the 3/4” and 1” FPT inlet connection options. The final model in this series is the Economy Design, the C-240. Although this option is the cheapest of the 4 models, it still boasts many quality features. Although it doesn’t have the cast-iron hydrant head, it still has one piece plunger design and a dual bypass high flow valve body. The C/P models are freeze less.
