Installation Instructions
(Throughout installation, refer to the parts list and schematic for visual aid.)
- Dig waterline trench to the desired depth.
- Screw 3″ PVC male adaptor x 3″ PVC Slip (CS-100-7) into 3″ brass coupler.
- Set assembled fittings into the trench and measure distance from top of fittings to the desired length.
- Cut the 3″ riser pipe to the desired length.
- Apply primer and glue to the 3″ PVC male adaptor x 4″ PVC Slip to the 3″ riser pipe.
- Apply primer and glue to the 3″ PVC male adaptor x 3″ PVC Slip to the top of the riser pipe.
- Screw the 3″ threaded locking nut to the PVC adaptor on the top of the riser pipe (no wrenches needed).
- Select an appropriate (i.e. brass adaptor, copper flare, fitting, etc.) fitting to connect the 3″ brass coupler to the waterline. Note: It is recommended that a 1 X 3″ or 1 X 4″ brass nipple be installed between the 3″ brass coupler and the fitting that will attach to the waterline. This nipple is used for securing the staple.
- Apply pipe sealant to the female threaded end of the fitting and screw them into the 1″ port of the brass coupler.
- Attach the assembled hydrant assist kit to the waterline. With a hammer, drive the 3/8″ stainless steel staple over the brass nipple to stabilize the unit. Note: The staple should be placed at a 45° angle to the nipple/fitting – making sure it comes in contact with both sides of the nipple/fitting. Do Not put the staple over the waterline – put it over the fittings as close to the 3″ brass fitting as possible. (Note: Do not cover drain hole with staple.)
- Put pipe sealant on the female threads of the hydrant or pipe to be installed into the hydrant assist kit.
Carefully lower the hydrant or pipe into the assembled unit and screw the hydrant or pipe on to the center thread of the 3″ brass coupler. - Turn on water and check for leaks.
- Install locking cap with the 2 bolts and tighten.
- Dump two 5-gallon pails of ½” washed rock (Do Not use sand) around the drainback area making sure the drainback hole is completely buried with washed rock.
- Bury unit with surrounding soil. For best results use hand level to keep unit straight.
- A 4″ riser pipe is required; a 3″ riser pipe will not work on Woodford Commercial hydrants due to size restrictions.
- You CAN NOT switch CS-100-4 with CS-100-7. CS-100-7 must be on the brass coupler.
